The bins were built out of 3/4 inch plywood. Craig rounded the edges to help prevent slivers. They are secure from mice and rodents. He is very careful not to spill feed on the floor. There is no sense inviting trouble into the loft. With a hay barn on the back side of the coop we have to worry about mice, so keeping the lofts neat and tidy helps prevent problems. Craig is very careful not to overfeed the pigeons. He feeds in small amounts and stops when the pigeons quit eating, so that the feed troughs are not sitting around with feed in them to attract mice. Before he built the feed storage bin, Craig stored his feed in a metal garbage can with a tight fitting lid. That also helped prevent problems with mice. It wasn't as nice as what he has now, but it served its purpose and kept the mice out of the feed. |
