This is a closeup view of the third section of the feeding bins. This section has six divisions which are each six inches wide. Each section has a seperate grain. The first is safflower, then millet, whole corn, milo, red grit and the last is oyster shell. Having the feed bins set up this way has made it very easy for Craig to feed the birds what he thinks they need. He can easily mix and adjust the feed every single day if necessary. He doesn't have to fight with lots of bags of feed. He just dips in a measuring cup, scoops out what he needs, and pours it into a larger pitcher. He puts in all the grains he wants to use, then shakes it up a bit and then he is ready to feed. What a timesaver this has been. It also alleviates a lot of mess and clutter in the coop.

Craig likes to mix his own feed rather than purchase a commercial mix. Often, he feeds individual grains one at a time to the birds. That way he knows that each bird is getting some of each different grain. He feeds different grains on different days following a race as he tries to help the birds recover from one race and prepare for the next one.
