To sew up a pigeon who has hit a wire, Craig uses regular sewing thread and a large sewing needle. He also uses a pair of needle-nose pliers to hold the needle and help pull it through the flesh. He sews the thread through both sides of the wound, then pulls the ends together till the flesh touches again. Then he ties a square knot. He cuts the ends fairly close to the knot. He sews the bird up by creating a line of seperate knots all the way down the cut. Most of the time, he is able to save the pigeon. In a few weeks he will take the stitches out if they haven't fallen out on their own. |
